MENTAL HEALTH DISABILITIES

Mental health refers to our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. It is important because it influences how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. It could also influence the way a person feels about themselves, the quality of their relationships, and their ability to manage their feelings and deal with life’s every day challenges.
Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including:

  • Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry
  • Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse
  • Family history of mental health problems

Premise:

Mental health is an important facet of a person’s overall wellbeing, According to National Alliance on Mental Health, 2018, half of mental conditions start at the age of 14 with the likelihood of 75%, that mental health conditions may develop by the age of 24.
As per Mental Health Foundation, 2016 One in every 6-adult’s experience common mental health problems including anxiety or depression, with at least one in 5 adults having considered suicide at some point of their lives.

  • There is a challenge in monitoring and following Patients with severe and chronic mental illness across medical, educational and social services, currently many of them will drop out of treatment and come for emergency visits when in crisis.
  • There is another challenge in Engaging and empowering relatives and family members of people with significant mental illness.
